Meet Our Physicians

Jeffrey D. Nightingale, M.D.

Experience Counts

With more than 20 years of surgical experience, Dr. Jeffrey D. Nightingale has performed thousands of eye operations. Additionally, he teaches surgical procedures to other ophthalmologists training at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. Nightingale’s specialties include state-of-the-art cataract surgery, LASIK and cosmetic procedures including BOTOX Cosmetic® and fillers.

Extensive Education and Training

Dr. Nightingale received his undergraduate degree from Columbia University and his medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical College. He completed an internship at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center, a residency at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital and Medical Center and a fellowship at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. An attending surgeon of ophthalmology at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, Dr. Nightingale is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, American College of Surgeons and the New York Kerato-Refractive Society.

Dr. Nightingale's approach to patient care is completely customized, focusing on how best to treat each unique person and their own distinctive issues and set of objectives. "I combine the latest technology with skill, experience and understanding," he explains.

An Expert in the Field of Ophthalmology

Well recognized for his expertise in the field of ophthalmology, Dr. Nightingale was selected as "One of the Best Doctors in New York" by the Castle and Connolly Guide. He has also authored a chapter in the book Clinics in Oculo-Plastic Surgery and developed a surgical instrument, the "Nightingale Posterior Capsule Polisher," which is routinely used in cataract and implant surgery.

Raphael A. Castillo, M.D.

Experience and Academic Excellence

An experienced ophthalmologist and eye surgeon, Dr. Raphael Castillo arrived in private practice from an academic background. He is the former chief of ophthalmology at one of the NYU-affiliated hospitals, where he taught eye residents training in eye surgery, particularly cataract surgery.

Dr. Castillo received his undergraduate degree from Florida International University and his medical degree from the Howard University College of Medicine. He completed an internship in internal medicine at the University of California, San Francisco at Fresno and a residency in ophthalmology at Howard University Hospital. He is a retinal sub-specialist, having fulfilled a post-residency fellowship at NYU, which has broadened our practice scope in such areas as diabetes, macular degeneration, vascular diseases and hypertension.

Recognition and Passion

The recipient of numerous honors including the NYU Attending of the Year Resident’s Award, Post Graduate Huh Research Award and Ophthalmology Department Research Award, Dr. Castillo is currently a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the New York State Ophthalmological Society. He has also participated in humanitarian medical missions in Haiti, the Dominican Republic and the Philippines, performing and teaching local doctors eye surgery.
